Scope

In this reflective space, offered to the entire academic community, the research carried out at Universidade Aberta is highlighted in a unique way.

This journal aims to publish essays and research papers produced by students and researchers, integrating diverse areas of knowledge. Submissions must comply with editorial guidelines and are subject to peer review, with the submission process open at all times.

In addition to the Reviews and Miscellanea sections, the Thematic Dossier delves into topics of contemporary relevance and significance, offering a transdisciplinary and diverse dialogue designed to engage both specialists and a broader audience.

It is hereby stated that the names and addresses provided to this publication will be used solely for the services it provides and will not be shared with third parties or used for any other purposes.

Periodicity

The journal follows a semesterly publication schedule.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides open access to its content, promoting the dissemination of scientific knowledge while fostering dialogue and sharing.

Authors wishing to publish their work are welcome to do so, with no fees charged for submission, processing, or publication.

Authors are also permitted to deposit the published version of their texts in open-access repositories.

This journal operates under the terms of the Licença Internacional Creative Commons Atribuição 4.0 (CC BY 4.0)

Copyright

The contents of the articles are the sole responsibility of their authors.

Authors retain copyright and grant the Universidade Aberta the free and exclusive right of first publication. The university reserves the right to publish the work in digital format and to promote it through all available channels.

Authors are granted the right to disseminate the final published version of their work on a non-exclusive basis, provided that appropriate attribution is given to the author and the original publication in this journal is duly acknowledged.

The rights to any images included in the articles are the exclusive responsibility of the authors.

Following the publication of each issue, Universidade Aberta reserves the right to make all content openly accessible on the journal’s website, as well as on other websites, databases, and scientific content aggregation platforms, under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).

Data Sharing Policy

In alignment with the principles of Open Science, authors are encouraged to make the data supporting the results presented in their articles publicly available. This should be done either prior to or at the time of the article’s submission.

However, the availability of data that could, under any circumstances, compromise the protection, privacy, or security of individuals involved in the research, or raise any other legal or ethical concerns, is excluded.

It is recommended that data be deposited in a repository that ensures long-term preservation and the registration of persistent identifiers. If authors encounter difficulties identifying a suitable repository, they are encouraged to use resources such as re3data.org  or the plattaform  FAIRsharing   to find one that meets the necessary criteria, or to consider using a general-purpose repository like Zenodo.

Where applicable, information should be provided on the location of the data associated with the article and the conditions under which it can be accessed, using persistent identifiers, URLs, and DOIs, where available.

Digital Preservation Policy

The journal is digitally preserved through the Public Knowledge Project.

Code of Ethics

The journal adheres to the Ethical Code of Universidade Aberta, as outlined in Directive No. 80/R/2023, published in Diário da República No. 947/2023, which can be consulted in the Ethical Code of Universidade Aberta.

Key points include:

  • Articles submitted for publication must be original and should not have been previously published, submitted, or awaiting publication elsewhere.
  • Any exceptions must be disclosed by the authors to the editorial team, which will review such cases individually to ensure transparency and originality. Failure to comply with these principles will result in the rejection of the work.

It is assumed that:

  • Submitted works are the genuine authorship of the listed authors and do not involve any instance of plagiarism;
  • All authors listed in the manuscript confirm their agreement with the submitted text;
  • Authors must clearly declare any conflicts of interest;
  • Any funding sources involved must be acknowledged;
  • Authors must promptly notify the journal if they identify any errors in a published article and should be prepared to issue a retraction if necessary.
